New System Design for Range, SoC & Range-Warnings

BMW's next-generation vehicle platform introduced an entirely new display ecosystem. Range information and warnings needed to behave consistently across every display, vehicle state and drivetrain while complying with market-specific regulations.

This case study is based on real project work. Due to confidentiality agreements, original interfaces and proprietary information cannot be published. All visuals are AI-generated representations created to communicate the underlying concepts while protecting confidential information.

By taking ownership of the end-to-end concept, I established a unified interaction model for range communication across BMW's next-generation HMI ecosystem.

-
Unified range communication across multiple HMI touchpoints
-
Reduced unnecessary driver warnings through cross-system orchestration
-
Established a scalable concept across BEV and PHEV platforms
-
Aligned multiple software teams around one shared interaction model
-
Introduced a consistent visual language for next-generation range communication
Key Outcomes
Challanges
Modern vehicles are no longer driven by a single HMI. Information is distributed across multiple displays, software platforms and control units, each owned by different teams. Yet, for the driver, it still has to feel like one coherent product.
No team owned the end-to-end experience. I recognized this gap and voluntarily took ownership of the overall concept, aligning multiple feature teams, software platforms and stakeholders to create one coherent user experience.
